Skilled Craft
Exodus 28:3: “Tell all who are skilled, to whom I have given special abilities, to make clothing for Aaron for his dedication to serve me as a priest.”
1 Corinthians 3:10 CEB: “I laid a foundation like a wise master builder according to God’s grace that was given to me, but someone else is building on top of it. Each person needs to pay attention to the way they build on it.”
The spiritual gift of skilled craft equips you with creativity, attention to detail and practical ability to create, build, maintain or repair items that support other individuals and your community. This gift reflects a deep connection between faith and intentional craftsmanship through which hands-on work becomes an act of love, service and care for community. Skilled craft drives you to seek the practical and tangible ways that your skills can help to make space and opportunities for God’s vision to come alive in the world around you.
At its core, skilled craft mixes creativity with practical service to move community work forward and help others experience God’s limitless expression in the world. Those with this gift are attuned to what is needed to support worship, ministry and community life, often seeing possibilities where others see limitations. Whether designing, constructing, repairing or maintaining, they bring both skill and intentionality to their work, recognizing that even the smallest details can contribute to meaningful encounters with God and one another. Craftsmanship reflects a commitment to stewardship: using one’s gifts to reveal God’s creative work in the world and to serve the community faithfully.
Some ways in which the gift of skilled craft might show up in your spiritual and communal life:
- Building a new ramp to help make a space more accessible.
- Restoring unique parts of a church building to maintain the space.
- Volunteering to restore homes after a disaster.
