The Rev. Amy Reumann
Elections are a vital expression of our shared life together, and in this election year, the ELCA reaffirms its commitment to faithful civic engagement rooted in our Christian calling. As people freed in Christ to love and serve our neighbor, we participate in public life not for narrow self-interest but for the sake of greater justice and the common good.
Faith leaders play a crucial role in helping members and congregations respond to the call to be disciples in a democracy. As trusted messengers, faith leaders play a crucial role in helping communities navigate polarization, misinformation and election-related concerns. This workshop equips ELCA ministers with practical tools, theological grounding and resources to support congregations during a complex political season while maintaining the church’s commitment to nonpartisanship and public witness.
Participants will explore key priorities for responsible engagement, which include fostering civil dialogue, addressing misinformation, protecting elections and supporting election integrity. Through various learning methods, participants will develop approaches to support their communities in reducing fear, building trust and grounding their public engagement in the gospel’s call to love and to seek justice. Whether you minister to a congregation experiencing deep division or one seeking to deepen its public witness, you will leave with actionable ideas and the confidence to lead faithfully in a challenging election year.
