The ELCA’s Latino community is a rich mosaic of people whose roots reach to Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We come from diverse cultures, languages, social classes and generations—yet are united in faith. As a “community of communities,” our shared identity in Christ gathers us around Word and Sacrament, grounding us in God’s love and forgiveness.
Latino Ministries celebrates our place in the larger body of Christ, contributing cultural values, spiritual traditions and lived experience that strengthen the ELCA. Our unity does not erase difference but embraces mestizaje—the blending of many peoples—and the gifts each brings. We seek inclusion without division, working for justice, dignity and mutual respect among all people.
Through the Latino Ministries Association (Asociación Luterana de Ministerios Latinos ELCA), we support pastors and lay leaders, strengthen ministries and uplift Latino culture within the church. Together we confront racism, promote inclusive ministry and build connections across congregations. Join us by engaging with the association, accessing our resources and sharing your story to help shape a church that reflects God’s vision of justice, community and unity.
