A renowned preacher, teacher and prophetic leader, the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers has been called to lead St. Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church, an innovative San Francisco ministry that inspires leaders across the ecumenical spectrum. She is the author of The Church Cracked Open, Radical Welcome and The Episcopal Way. Her newest book – Church Tomorrow?: What the 'Nones' and 'Dones' Teach Us About the Future of Faith – wrestles with the decline of traditional religion and the spiritual wisdom of nonreligious millennials and Gen Zers.  

Spellers started as a church planter in Boston, then taught in seminaries and served as a diocesan canon. She went on to spend nearly a decade alongside Presiding Bishop Michael Curry overseeing the Episcopal Church's work on evangelism, racial reconciliation, social justice, congregational development and church planting. Until she starts at St. Gregory’s in August 2026, she will continue to consult, preach internationally and serve as canon in residence at historic St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City.
