Gender Justice and Women’s Empowerment

Collaborating to Address Patriarchy
Connecting Theology with Today’s Needs

ELCA Gender Justice and Women's Empowerment collaborates with people across the church and globally to address patriarchy and sexism, which lead to gender injustices such as domestic violence or unequal pay. Patriarchy obviously harms women and girls, but it hurts everyone.

Gender justice is a form of loving the neighbor so that people of all sexes and genders flourish. ELCA Gender Justice and Women’s Empowerment:

  • taps into Lutheran theological roots to address patriarchy,
  • connects this theology with specific issues in the world,
  • encourages people of all genders to work together.

This church’s work relies on the unique voices and experiences of a multitude of people across race, ethnicity, ability, class, sexuality and age.
