Bishop Azar is a product of the Lutheran schools in Palestine he now leads as Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL). He was installed as Bishop of the ELCJHL in 2018 after serving the Redeemer Lutheran congregation in Jerusalem for 20 years. Bishop Azar has a passion for justice and grace, and prioritizes children and youth in his ministry. He currently sits on the World Council of Church's Central Committee. Bishop Azar is married to Nahla Azar, and has three girls, one of whom is an ordained pastor in the ELCJHL.
