Wondimu Legesse Sonessa was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus in 2008. He is currently an ordained ELCA minister. In addition to his involvement in church leadership and pastoral ministry, he is a systematic theologian who writes extensively on religious, political and ethnic identities. His work has been published in books, magazines and journals, and he has presented at the World Council of Churches, the American Academy of Religion and the Academy for Evangelism in Theological Education.
Sonessa has an M.A. in biblical and theological studies from the Ethiopian Graduate School of Theology, as well as a Master of Theology and a Ph.D. from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. He has also served as a lecturer and dean at the Mekane Yesus Seminary, as a pastor of immigrant congregations in Minneapolis and as interim director of evangelical mission for the Minneapolis Area Synod.
Sonessa currently lives in Minnesota with his wife and three children.
