Lutheran Office for World Community (LOWC)
We live in a diverse, divided and fragile world. In faithfulness, the ELCA is committed to defending human dignity, standing with the poor and powerless, advocating for justice, working for peace and caring for the earth across today’s global society.
LOWC is the Lutheran representation to the United Nations. LOWC is a joint ELCA ministry with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) advocating for peace, fundamental human rights, justice, respect for international law and improved standards of living for all persons.
The ELCA is a member of LWF, a global communion of churches in the Lutheran tradition living and working together for a peaceful, just and reconciled world. LWF membership represents over 78 million Christians in the Lutheran tradition across 99 countries worldwide.
Connecting Values and Experience With Global Actors
By prayerfully and intentionally being in spaces with global actors, faith leaders can share compelling stories in halls of power. Global partners learn from one another and network on pressing international issues through LOWC connections.
International young adults and justice leaders take part in advancing gender equality, empowering all women and girls.
At UN Conference of the Parties meetings, LOWC brings faith voices to far-reaching efforts to tackle the climate crisis.
Nurturing international relationships and mutually sharing expertise make tangible differences in people’s lives.
