African Descent

African American, Afro Caribbean, African National
MDCC Ministries and Associations

We celebrate and affirm people of African ancestry—Black, African Caribbean, African American, African nationals, and others—as vital voices in the ELCA. Grounded in faith, resilience and culture, this community enriches the church with spiritual depth, creativity and leadership.

Our mission is to engage, involve and invest in the gifts of the African descent community. We nurture discipleship through worship, leadership, family ministry and advocacy, guided by Many Voices, Tell the Story, Create the Vision—Build Our Future.

We connect through the African Descent Lutheran Association (ADLA), Talks at the Desk video series and strategic initiatives that empower leaders and congregations. Together, we work toward a just, inclusive and vibrant ELCA that reflects the beauty of God’s diverse creation.

Through networking, leadership development, worship, scholarships and community outreach, ADLA supports the visibility and full participation of people of African descent in church life.
