CHICAGO — The Rev. Constanze Hagmaier was reelected May 30 to serve a six-year term as bishop of the South Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The election took place during the synod assembly, May 30-31 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The bishop was reelected on the first ballot, with 312 votes out of 376 legal votes cast.
Hagmaier previously served as administrative pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, S.D. (2009-2019); pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston, S.D. (2004-2009); and pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, S.D. (2001-2004).
She received a Master of Divinity degree from Heidelberg University, Germany, in 1999, and after emigrating to the United States in 2000, she affiliated with Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. Luther is one of seven ELCA seminaries.
