Rev. Elle Dowd

About

The Rev. Elle Dowd (she/they) is a pastor, author and activist whose ministry is shaped by multiracial, queer and justice-centered communities — from the radical Black leadership of the 2014 uprising in Ferguson, Mo., to her ties with Sierra Leone, where her children were born. An ordained ELCA pastor and Ph.D. student at Chicago Theological Seminary, Elle is the author of Baptized in Tear Gas: From White Moderate to Abolitionist (Broadleaf Books, 2021) and centers theologies of liberation, bisexuality and embodiment to cultivate solidarity and expand the kin-dom of God. She has participated in movements to decolonize Lutheranism (#decolonizeLutheranism) and served on the clergy advocacy board for Planned Parenthood and as a board member with Southsiders Organized for Unity and Liberation, grounding her witness in the dignity and interdependence of all people.
