Pastoring in a Lutheran School or Early Learning Center

Cory Newman

Are you a rostered leader shepherding a congregation with a school or early learning center? You're not alone—and you don't have to navigate this journey in isolation.

The Evangelical Lutheran Education Association supports approximately 1,250 schools and early learning centers throughout the ELCA. While currently only 20% are members, we understand how vital connection is for those serving in similar capacities. Leading an educational ministry presents unique challenges, especially when most rostered leaders have no experience or education in child development, licensing, teaching or child psychology. Immersing yourself in the world of private or early childhood education can feel overwhelming.

This affinity group is a place for rostered leaders to gather, learn and support one another. We'll explore current trends in Lutheran education, share better practices and talk about the future of our church when caring for and educating young children is at the heart of what we do. We'll dig into the real-world challenges of educational leadership while keeping our focus on how these ministries serve our communities and shape the next generation.

Whether you're brand new to educational ministry or you've been at it for years, you'll find encouragement, practical ideas and colleagues who get what you're experiencing. Come join the conversation about the challenges and blessings of this important work.
