Gathering Expeditions connect youth across the church through local events that build faith, community and excitement for the 2027 ELCA Youth Gathering in Minneapolis.

Gathering Expeditions are weekend retreats where youth and their adult leaders step away from the noise to explore faith, purpose and leadership. It’s a time to pause, listen and prepare for what God is doing next.
Each Expedition invites young people to discover their voice and practice leading alongside others. Through worship, service and shared learning, they grow the skills and confidence to live their faith boldly in daily life.
These retreats serve as stepping stones on the faith formation journey—building connection and momentum before the 2027 ELCA Youth Gathering, where the shared experience peaks in a powerful churchwide celebration of faith.

FAQs
Nope! All youth who are interested in exploring faith in an ever-changing world are invited to attend. There will be space to explore God’s creation, ask difficult questions, ponder who they are called to be, and so much more. This is a perfect opportunity for youth to bring friends who might be interested in joining in on the fun and connecting with your youth group more regularly.
Gathering Expeditions offer a chance to slow down, connect deeply, and grow as leaders in faith. Youth and adults alike step away from the everyday to worship, serve, and listen for where God is calling them next. It’s a meaningful stop on the journey toward the 2027 ELCA Youth Gathering.
No one knows for sure just yet! You might see a few familiar faces from past Gatherings—or meet entirely new voices ready to inspire and challenge in fresh ways. Part of the fun is discovering who shows up on that big stage.
The Expedition and the Gathering are two parts of one faith-filled journey. At the Expedition, youth and adults pause to listen, lead, and grow together—discovering how God is at work in their daily lives. The Gathering becomes the mountain top moment where those lessons and relationships come to life alongside thousands of others across the ELCA. Together, they create a rhythm of reflection and celebration, grounding young leaders in faith that continues long after the events end.
